For Ashton & Michael Napa Valley engagement photo session we chose beautiful setting of Soul Food Farm which is quietly tucked into the rolling hillsides of Northern California. Since 1988, the Koefoed family has continued the legacy of this historic farm, and today it is bountiful with both wild and artisan flowers, lavender fields, and an estate olive orchard where, every year, the local community gathers to help with the harvest. Technically it is located just outside of Napa Valley, but the Napa atmosphere is most definitely there, so who’s counting!
I’ve always been inspired by my travels to Mediterranean countries, that holds a special place in my heart. Napa Valley is undeniable California’s Italy, Spain, Croatia…There is no better way to bring Mediterranean vibes to the photo session, than to use olive trees, a symbol of their culture, as a background. If only it would grow in Tahoe!

Ashton and Michael were fun to work with and I love when couples dress up for their session! Don’t they have amazing style? The icing on the cake was the champagne they brought to their California olive grove engagement session. In just a few weeks I will have an honor to photograph their wedding day in Incline Village. Ashton and I have been chatting about the big day and I have to say it is going to be absolutely elegant!
HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met in San Francisco at Pacific Brewing Company. Our paths crossed again while Ashton was fundraising for San Francisco – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our first date was technically a fundraising meeting! Then our official first date was a Giants vs A’s baseball game in SF.
HOW DID YOU GET ENGAGED?
We were celebrating during the holidays and opening gifts. Michael reached into the couch and pulled out the ring box. Cooper was sitting right in front of him (Cooper is Ashton & Michael’s lovely dog who will also be attending their wedding! And yes, I cannot wait to take portraits of all of them together!) – so Michael and Cooper asked me to marry them. It was super sweet and intimate and no, I didn’t believe it for about 5 minutes. I thought there was a hidden camera and that he was joking. I had no idea it was coming and I was in complete shock!
